Health Tips
What Are We Celebrating?Recent news reports the medical community is celebrating cancer statistics on longevity. It seems we are now living longer with cancer. At first glance, that would be worth celebrating as a major victory in the fight against cancer. However, a deeper look at these statistics brings me sadness. It seems we now evaluate our health system just as we have evaluated our education system. Instead of from a point of excellence in education, we have moved to what I call “bottom up evaluation”. I feel as if we are doing the same thing with our health care system. It is not about how few people are developing cancer, it is how long they survive with their cancer. The results do not tell us about the cancer survivor’s quality of life, how many drugs they are required to take, the radiation treatments, chemo, or life with various body parts removed. The war on cancer has given us earlier detection and better education and awareness, however; the number of people with cancer continues to increase. During Workshops when I ask this question, “How many of you have personally been diagnosed with cancer or had a member of you family diagnosed with cancer”; nearly one hundred percent raise their hands. Modern medicine is this – we drug it, radiated it or we amputate it. If we have a problem – a heart problem, we go to a heart specialist - cancer, a cancer specialist – lung, a lung specialist. We go to a specific surgeon because they train for that surgery. We seek the specialist! There is an exception to the “seek a specialist” ideology – NUTRITION! While visiting with a friend this past weekend he talked about the specialists he and his wife see for their very serious illnesses. Not once did he mention the holistic doctor and nutritional specialist. Why? Nutrition does not cross our minds when it comes to the prevention, cure or treatment of disease. Why? We have all heard the axioms – an apple a day keeps the doctor away – an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure – garbage in, garbage out. Still for most there is a complete disconnect between the foods and beverages that we consume and their relationship to health or disease. Hippocrates himself said, “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” If you want to decrease the chances of disease and sickness in your body, you must start with what you put in your mouth. Your choices will create an environment in your cells that will favor good health or favor disease. Get started now by making some of the following choices: · drink clean water (half your body weight in ounces) · eat at least 5 servings of raw organic vegetables each day (colors of the rainbow) · eat 2 servings of organic fruits each day · take the best nutritional supplement your budget can afford · exercise for 30 minutes most days of the week · limit animal protein from all sources (red meat, chicken, fish and especially cow’s milk).
Take back your health – take back your life! Yours in Health and Vitality, Mike Inabinett |
